Refresh maadi..

I know its been ages since m last post.. almost two months. A lot has happened during this time - we enjoyed a great vacation at Egypt, Appa and Amma moved to Chennai for a while during Shakthi's last months before delivery and Aruna left on a 3-week to the USA quickly after we returned. So the period between the return from Egypt and her departure to the USA was totally hectic - time just flew. Shifting the items required for Appa and Amma at Chennai  occupied the earlier half of the intermediate month while shopping and packing for Aruna's trip took the latter half. And since she left, work has taken over considerably leaving me with little time and zeal to post.


The temporary bachelorhood I am going through is surprisingly not as fun as made out to be. I think its fair to say that men in general develop a much greater dependency on their wives after marriage than the other way around. Its not at all about household work - I am happy enough to do the cooking and sundry washing etc. Its more about companionship. Ya.. maybe the fact that I dont have any close friends living near enough to my home and also that having a nice evening out in Bangalore has become a near unattainable luxury. The thought of driving through the horrible traffic to reach Crossword or Landmark to browse through books or music is scary. Just go home and sleep maadi.


I have spent the weekends out of home - two weekends at Chennai with Appa and Amma and the previous weekend at Ashok Mama's place in Vijayanagar. All in all, I cant wait for Saturday night - and Aruna - to come !!

Yesterday night, Sun TV telecast Deiva piravi as prt of its late night movie series commemmorating 75 years of Tamil cinema. Starring the celebrate pair of Sivaji Ganesan and Padmini, the film proved to be an enjoyable watch most of the time. A simple story of a married couple who lead a happy life together, how it is finally marred by the designs of a scheming woman, misunderstandings and finally a happy finale. The last segment of the film is typical of the films of the time where the vvillains were usually the spiteful women. Misery is caused not by deaths but by emotional turmoil. I empathize with that entiment. A confused mind finding no peace anywhere is the worst punishment that can be inflicted on man. Death or physical pain is far more endurable. The Grim Reaper

I have been bemoaning the way a generation seems to be passing to realm of memories only in 2011. This was after witnessing in swift succession the death of great personalities like Shammi Kapoor, Mansur Pataudi, Jagjit Singh, Bhupen Hazarika and Dev Anand in India and Steve Jobs outside. But I was not prepared for Death to come knocking home. My father in law also breathed his last- 22 Dec 2011. He had been in Pune with his elder daughter for the past four months or so, then he was in Bangalore for a week and finally returned to his home in Chennai accompanied by both his daughters, his wife and his grandson. He reached his home, supped and went to bed. He did not wake up again apparently due to a heart attack. There are many ways to philosophize on this- he died quietly without any apparent pain; everything seems to so perfectly planned- his dying at his pen home with his immediate family around him.. but eventually, he is no more and that's what the family agonizes over. Nine years later

I suddenly thought, let me start a blog. Its been a while since I have done any formal writing to the web. I took this as a good sign to return and continue the blogs I had made earlier.   Ok.. so, what is the same and what has changed since 2012? Well, firs- I am still alive. I think that is quite an achievement considering that the world has been through a demonic pandemic over the past year with India, in particular, going through a severe second wave right now. The pandemic has devastated more lives, more families than I would care to recount here. Suffice to say, we are still in the middle of it, the number of deaths is still growing and there is no end in sight.   We now have our little princess, Tarana. She became part of our lives in 2013 and has altered hugely the way we live. Obviously. God decided, seeing how we enjoyed Calvin and Hobbes, to give us a Calvin in flesh.
