Nine years later

I suddenly thought, let me start a blog. Its been a while since I have done any formal writing to the web. I took this as a good sign to return and continue the blogs I had made earlier.   Ok.. so, what is the same and what has changed since 2012? Well, firs- I am still alive. I think that is quite an achievement considering that the world has been through a demonic pandemic over the past year with India, in particular, going through a severe second wave right now. The pandemic has devastated more lives, more families than I would care to recount here. Suffice to say, we are still in the middle of it, the number of deaths is still growing and there is no end in sight.   We now have our little princess, Tarana. She became part of our lives in 2013 and has altered hugely the way we live. Obviously. God decided, seeing how we enjoyed Calvin and Hobbes, to give us a Calvin in flesh. Calvin had only one Hobbes for his friend. Tarana has a bigger group- Winnie, Sammy, Iris...

Aruna's birthday

Image
Woke her up at midnight.. Chocolates for all Then during the office day, met her for lunch at Little Italy restaurant. Good food!! Evening was family wishing Aruna time..
The GT group of 1997 met up at Chennai. Sriram had come in from Londaon, Harsha from Bombay, I(Sathya) from Bangalore and Kicha and Vivek had recently returned from their international trips. It was like old times.. meeting up in the same room of Harsha's, I walking in with a chips packet and a bottle of Pepsi.. lounging around on the bed talking of this and that and rounding the day off with a nice dinner. Sriram and Niv were already at Dhadi's place when I reached. Kicha spent the evening with us but had to miss out on dinner. Vivek came with his family to the restaurant directly. We got great material for laughts- a couple stand out. Dhadi's recounting of his stolen laptop incident - a masseur apparently stole our hero's laptop. Harsha, after a deep economic analysis, decided to offer the man Rs 20000/- in return for his laptop!! We were talking of the Rajdhani restaurant . Sathya: Dont like the food at Rajdhani. Too oily. Vivek: Ya man. Shatabdi trai...

The Grim Reaper

I have been bemoaning the way a generation seems to be passing to realm of memories only in 2011. This was after witnessing in swift succession the death of great personalities like Shammi Kapoor, Mansur Pataudi, Jagjit Singh, Bhupen Hazarika and Dev Anand in India and Steve Jobs outside. But I was not prepared for Death to come knocking home. My father in law also breathed his last- 22 Dec 2011. He had been in Pune with his elder daughter for the past four months or so, then he was in Bangalore for a week and finally returned to his home in Chennai accompanied by both his daughters, his wife and his grandson. He reached his home, supped and went to bed. He did not wake up again apparently due to a heart attack. There are many ways to philosophize on this- he died quietly without any apparent pain; everything seems to so perfectly planned- his dying at his pen home with his immediate family around him.. but eventually, he is no more and that's what the family agonizes over. He ...

Week ending 4 Dec 2011

Image
The week through the first four days was all about work. I had little time away from there. But its good fun though. I am enjoying my current state at work- I am involved in discussing the architecture requirements for next generation of our product and looking at the timelines for those, working with junior developers in reviewing their problems and helping them with their code, supporting other teams in integrating with our product.. its all pretty satisfying. I guess this shows in my deliverables also. My boss has been gratifyingly vocal in her appreciation of my work and I am hoping that the year-end pickings with regard to remunerations also reflect my boss' apparent recommendations. But thats not a big thing for my anyways. Appa came back to Bangalore on Thursday dropping Amma off at Agraharam. He remained busy with with either the Sai organization related work or with the translation of a spiritual book he is doing. It is good to see that he keeps himself fully engaged m...

Its now Week that was..

I am now going to use this blog more as a journal. I have been intending to put together something like a journal over the past couple of weeks. The reason for this is primarily because of the photos I take on my mobile. I enjoy taking photos and sharing them with people. I have my Picasa web albums where I share my photos. But the fact is that the photos there pertain to specific events which required me to snap on my digital camera, then organizing those on iPhoto and then uploading them as web albums. But what about the moments I click on my mobile? These usually do not pertain to events- web albums seem an overkill and I am not a social-apps guy to keep putting them on to those sites. I decided then that what made best sense was a diary-ish blog where I could capture a week in words with some photos I had taken through that week. This is the theme for this journal..
Another evening moves past without my being sought by the bzrber or being warned by the nurses not to consume anything after 12am today. This means that there is almost no chance of the surgery happening tomorrow. Feelings of frustrztion obviously rise in me but I quell them with the thought that it is perhaps His will that I should wait longer. Whatever date or time i finally get moved to the OT is the best time. I only feel sorry that I am inconveniencing my fzmily a great deal. May thats what the Good Lord has willed for them too but I am sorry I have to bear the responsibility for ghat. Anyway i.ntazaar aur abhii aur abhii aur abhii

Ek din aur gayaa

One day melts into the next so seamlessly that but for the surgery dezdline for Thursday, I would be at a loss to say what day or date it is. Hopefully my wait is at an end and I would get operated tomorrow. Then I just need to look forward to returning home and step towards resuming normal life. Aruna dear bought me some books yesterday. She got me Ganesh Raman's 'Bollywood music'. Have brushed through some passages of the book so far and my initial impression is that its an amateurish work, It is definitely not the serious study of Hindi film music that is long due. The usage of the term 'Bollywood' in the titleis itself a deterrant. Somehow the music of all those great legends of yore does not fit the more modern and plagiarized title of bollywood. The icentification of our cinema with hollywood underlines the total Americanization of our modern cukture. This ix also reflectedto a great extent in our films' music today but this is definitely not the case ...
